    Loss of biodiversity, Environmental pollution
  • Solution:
Citizen science, data-based conservation & education for ocean stakeholders

TurtleWatch Egypt 2.0 is a community-based conservation initiative dedicated to the long-term monitoring and protection of marine turtles across the Egyptian Red Sea.
Since 2011, the project has adopted a citizen science approach, engaging divers, snorkelers, and local communities in turtle photo identification to document population structure, behavior, and movement patterns.

In addition to ecological monitoring, the program assesses injury prevalence and recovery trends among turtles observed in the wild, with remote support from specialized veterinarians. Through tailored educational programs, awareness campaigns, and partnerships with dive centers, schools, universities, environmental institutions and local authorities, TurtleWatch Egypt 2.0 promotes responsible marine tourism and contributes to the sustainable management of Red Sea turtle populations and habitats.
