SANCCOB – Saving Southern Africa’s Seabirds

Since 1968, SANCCOB (Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds) has been dedicated to protecting southern Africa’s seabirds, particularly the critically endangered African penguin.

Through its rescue and rehabilitation centres in Cape Town and Gqeberha, SANCCOB provides emergency response, veterinary treatment and specialised rehabilitation for sick, injured, abandoned and oil-affected seabirds. Its teams care for penguins, gannets, cormorants, gulls and other coastal bird species, with the aim of returning rehabilitated animals to the wild.

SANCCOB also works directly in seabird colonies through its ranger programmes, monitoring vulnerable populations and helping birds in distress. Scientific research, conservation education and volunteer programmes support its long-term efforts to protect seabirds and their marine habitats.

Supporters can contribute through donations, penguin adoptions, volunteering and conservation partnerships. Every contribution helps SANCCOB provide food, medical care and a second chance for seabirds in need.

By combining hands-on animal rescue with research and conservation, SANCCOB helps protect the future of southern Africa’s seabirds.
