Marevivo

Rome - italy
  • Main problem:
Ghost nets killing marine life and damaging seabeds
  • Subproblem:
Lack of funding for urgent marine recovery actions
  • Consequence:
Destruction of marine habitats, Loss of biodiversity
  • Solution:
Rapid underwater operations to remove ghost gear

Marevivo’s Emergency Sea Fund was created to act swiftly and efficiently when urgent threats to the marine environment arise, such as the discovery of ghost nets or abandoned fishing gear on the seabed.

These deadly traps continue to kill marine life for years and damage fragile habitats. The fund allows us to deploy our certified diving team, often within days, to carry out targeted underwater recovery operations, in coordination with marine authorities and local stakeholders. Every intervention saves animals, restores the environment, and raises awareness. The fund is entirely supported by donations and has already enabled interventions across the Mediterranean, including in protected marine areas.
